Keep Clean This Halloween
In the spirit of Halloween and the horrors that follow, I’m going to tell you about the ghosts and ghouls inhabiting your home. Of course, these aren’t quite as supernatural as the season festivities would suggest, but just as gruesome and wicked. These monstrosities are, most certainly, real and difficult to clean!
Carpets – A Void of Horrors:
We’d all like our carpets to remain as they were in their heyday: our own Hollywood dream of bright whites, creams, and a whole host of other fresh, clean colours. However, as always, there’s more than meets the eye.
I’ve previously talked about the risks of a dirty carpet but let me tell you a bit more:
Bigger than you think: Like an endless ‘Eldritch Horror’, carpets can hold a truly massive amount of dirt (Four times their own weight!)
- Where there’s dirt, there’s germs and bugs:
Carpets look fantastic and have a ton of health benefits when they’re clean, BUT a dirty carpet is a siren song to all things gross. And, as I’ve mentioned before, this includes anything brought in on your shoes! Carpets in need of a clean are loaded with dust and dirt and even creepy crawlies, often carried in by our furry friends. Sometimes, Salmonella bacteria can even be found in a dirty carpet – a real horror for tiny tots and people of all ages!
Clean Upholstery & Forgotten Horrors
Dirty upholstery can be the forgotten fiend that hides grime and disrepair. Homes, hospitals, hotels, public transport, it’s everywhere! However, it’s been shown that clean upholstery can have some seriously good health benefits!
Regularly cleaning upholstery in hospitals can significantly reduce the risks of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. In our homes, though, things are different. We don’t have the same exposure to disease and infections but with kids, pets, and the everyday pace of life, our sofas, armchairs, footstools and home furnishings are capable of holding a treasure trove of filth that needs a jolly good clean from time to time.
UK surveys show:
- When marred with stains, as many as 20% of UK households disguise spills and marks with cushions, throws, and other theatrics. We’re all a little guilty of doing this but, unfortunately, it all helps to breed the bacteria we can’t see.
- In addition to this, 44% of people said they eat whilst sat on their sofas daily. A daily supply of loose crumbs and stray food all help to foster a thriving community of germs.
Upholstery doesn’t need to be deep cleaned constantly but it does need some love and attention, and more than it’s often given. It’s where we’ve eaten, slept, loved, and laughed, so keep it safe with some TLC this Halloween.
No Screams, Just Clean
With Halloween just around the corner, I know that even if there aren’t any ghouls in my home, my kids will enjoy the festivities and that, inevitably, chocolates, toffees, and sugary sweets are going to be consumed – it’s all part of the fun! I wouldn’t change it for the world but I also know how hard it can be to clean sticky stains out of a carpet.
If, after this spooky Halloween, you’re left looking at carpets or upholstery that need a bit of love, please do reach out.
