Minton floor cleaning and restoration

Victorian floor restoration

We specialise in the restoration, cleaning and maintenance of ‘Victorian’ or Minton floors. I mention two types of floor but in reality they are all the same.

These beautiful geometric tiled floors date from the mid Victorian period until the 1930’s and form a stunning entrance to homes of that period. They are practical and add real value to period properties but unfortunately many have suffered over the years and have lost their former glory.

We offer a restoration service to remove the worst the the C20th has thrown at the floor, deep clean and finally seal to enhance their beauty and to protect them .

Another term for these floors is tessellated floors, and they featured in hallways and sometimes the front paths of both homes and commercial premises. There are a wide array of designs made up from triangles, squares, trapeziums, hexagons and octagons in a variety of vibrant colours. Often included in the designs are square encaustic tiles , which contain an embossed pattern.

We have undertaken the restoration of many of these floors in the areas we cover. They are particularly common in the Victorian and Edwardian terraces and streets of Stamford, and also close to Melton Mowbray town centre.

Can you repair damaged Victorian floor tiles?

If you have some damaged tiles or loose fitting tiles don’t worry. We can refit your existing tiles to make the floor sound again. There are also a number of companies now making reproduction tiles to replace any damaged ones and also some companies are reclaiming original tiles, so one way or another we can usually get suitable replacements for you.

Our intensive cleaning methods and heavy weight rotary cleaning machine mean that we can get deep down into the tiles to bring out their natural colours. Over time the colours have lost their vibrancy , but our deep cleaning and then sealing will bring them back to life.

When it comes to sealing there are options open to you depending on what type of finish you want but all options bring out the beauty of the floor and protect it from spills and make it easy to look after for years to come.
